Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is counseling, and how can it help me?First off, if this is your first time seeking counseling, I want to congratulate you for taking such a significant step toward prioritizing your well-being. Counseling can feel intimidating to some whether it's your initial session or you've been attending for years. It involves willingly entering a vulnerable space to discuss topics that may feel uncomfortable or unfamiliar. However, as your counselor, I will meet you where you are, and together, we will collaborate on enhancing your overall mental health.
-
How do I know if counseling is right for me?If you're wondering whether therapy is right for you, chances are, it could be. Life is full of transitions, challenges, and moments that leave us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of our next steps. Therapy isn’t just for crisis moments—it’s a space to gain clarity, build resilience, and create meaningful change in your life. Having a nonjudgmental, supportive space to explore your thoughts and emotions can make all the difference. Therapy offers more than just a listening ear—it provides guidance, challenge, and tools to help you grow in ways that feel both empowering and sustainable. Finding the right therapist is key. If you think we might be a good fit, let’s start with a consultation call to explore how we would work together.
-
What can I expect during my first counseling session? This is a big question lots of folks wonder about. You do not need to come prepared! During our first session, we will do an intake. This is the process of getting to know you and starting to understand your concerns and goals, along with gathering relevant information about your background. This will be an opportunity to discuss what brings you to counseling, ask any questions, and start to develop a plan.
-
How long does a counseling session last, and how often should I attend?Sessions typically last 55 minutes. The frequency will be determined together, considering your goals and availability. Initially, I often recommend meeting weekly to establish our relationship and delve deeper into your needs.
-
Is counseling confidential?Yes, confidentiality is paramount. As a counselor, I adhere to strict ethical standards to protect your privacy. Information shared in sessions remains confidential, except in rare instances where disclosure is legally mandated to ensure your safety or that of others.
-
Do you accept insurance? / How much per session?Yes, I accept Premera, Lifewise, Blue Cross and Blue Shield. If you have a different insurance provider, I’m happy to provide a superbill for out-of-network reimbursement. Private pay rates are $145 for individual sessions and $165 for couples sessions.
